Able and enthusiastic mathematicians represented their schools and showcased their mathematical skills at two CLT-organised Mathematics Challenges.
Our Bridgwater primary schools competed on Tuesday 12 November and it was the turn of our Clevedon primary schools on Wednesday 13 November.
40 Year 5 and Year 6 pupils participated in each event and worked in small teams to tackle a series of challenging puzzles designed to test their problem-solving skills.
The pupils were fully engaged and clearly relished the opportunity to represent their school. Everyone performed excellently, both solving the puzzles and also working as a team.
The winning Bridgwater teams were:
Puriton A Team (Year 5)
Northgate A Team (Year 6)
The winning Clevedon teams were:
Tickenham A Team (Year 5)
Tickenham B Team (Year 6)
Sophie Keetch, Year 5 teacher from Northgate Primary School, said: ‘The Mathematic Challenge was a real success. The children thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and engaged in maths in a fun but competitive way. The activities were diverse and allowed them to practise different maths skills as well as learning attitudes including team work and resilience.’
Rebecca Underwood, class teacher from Tickenham CofE Primary School, said: ‘The children from Tickenham thoroughly enjoyed their time and were buzzing with enthusiasm on their return to school. The variety of mathematical activities available were really fun and challenged the children perfectly! An amazing morning!’
Mark Nelson, event organisor, said: ‘As a Trust we cater for a wide range of pupil interests through our Creative and Cultural Programme. We organised the Mathematics Challenge to provide an opportunity for able and keen mathematicians to represent their school, much like footballers and netballers do at sporting fixtures. I’m very pleased that the children enjoyed the challenge and I was seriously impressed with their ability.’
A big thank you to the host schools, Chilton Trinity School and Yeo Moor Primary School, and to DCBeagle Challenges for delivering such great events.
